The 8th Disabled Persons' Games of Guizhou Province concluded on Sept 20. The Guiyang delegation won 36 gold medals, 22 silver medals, and 10 bronze medals – a total of 68 medals – along with five fourth-place finishes and six sixth-place finishes.
Their performance fully demonstrated the spirit of self-reliance and courageous striving of people with disabilities in Guiyang.
For this event, Guiyang assembled a delegation of 86 people, including 64 competing athletes, who actively competed in nine major sports: athletics, swimming, table tennis, badminton, deaf basketball, shooting, taekwondo, weightlifting, and chess.
In the arena, Guiyang's athletes with disabilities delivered steady performances and pushed beyond their limits in multiple events, including athletics, swimming, and ball sports, stepping onto the podium time and again.
In recent years, Guiyang has improved its sports training and competition support systems for people with disabilities, carrying out regular talent selection for training camps, physical fitness enhancement, and competitive skill improvement, and has continued to build a broad platform for people with disabilities to showcase themselves, pursue their dreams, and surpass themselves.
Moving forward, Guiyang will continue to devote itself to the cause of sports for people with disabilities, improve long-term mechanisms for talent cultivation, training support, and event participation, encourage more people with disabilities to step out of their homes, participate in sports, and embrace life, and strive to advance the high-quality development of the city's cause for people with disabilities to a new level.
