Guiyang achieves best-ever results at provincial games

The 12th Guizhou Provincial Games concluded on Aug 15 at the Qiannan Bouyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture National Fitness Activity Center. The Guiyang delegation led the province in both total gold medals and total medals across the competitive and mass sports categories, achieving its best-ever results at the provincial games.

This year's provincial games featured both competitive and mass sports categories. The competitive sports category included 23 disciplines and 640 events, with diving and volleyball added to the program. It also showcased Guizhou's traditional strengths, including gymnastics and mountain biking. The mass sports category comprised 34 disciplines and 193 events.

Guiyang sent 1,645 athletes, coaches, and team leaders to compete across all competitive and mass sports events. In competitive sports, the delegation won 274 gold, 147 silver, and 135 bronze medals. In mass sports, it secured 79 gold, 41 silver, and 24 bronze medals.

At the closing ceremony, 16 delegations, including those from Guiyang, Zunyi, and Qiannan, received the Sportsmanship Award. The provincial games flag was officially handed over from Qiannan to Qiandongnan, which will host the next edition.
