The Guiyang leg of the 2026 National Hiking Conference was held on Aug 8 in Qingyan Ancient Town, Huaxi district, Guiyang city, marking the 18th National Fitness Day.

The event featured two hiking routes: the 12-kilometer Huaxi Scenic Walk and the 5-km Qingyan Leisure Walk. Some 2,000 hiking enthusiasts from across China set off from the North Gate Square of Qingyan Ancient Town, passing the town walls, pastoral landscapes, and the historic Red Army Trail, while enjoying Huaxi's natural scenery and cultural heritage.

The event drew participants of all ages and backgrounds, from experienced outdoor enthusiasts in full gear to local families hiking together. Hiking groups from neighboring cities and autonomous prefectures also joined the event.

All participants received commemorative medals and certificates. After completing the hike, many visitors explored more of the ancient town, sampling local specialties such as Qingyan braised pig's feet, rose candy and gaoba porridge – two sweet snacks – while browsing traditional handicrafts including silver jewelry and embroidery. The combination of hiking, sampling local food, and cultural exploration emerged as a hugely popular way to spend the day.

"It was wonderful to join the hiking event in beautiful Qingyan Ancient Town," said Li Yumei. "The weather was pleasantly cool, the event services were excellent, and I was surprised to find the local specialty – Qingyan braised pig's feet – among the event refreshments."
