Guiyang promotes traditional martial arts on campus

A two-week campus training program promoting traditional Chinese martial arts concluded at Guiyang Institute of Humanities and Technology in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, on Dec 25.

This was part of efforts to advance the "martial arts on campus" initiative and pass on traditional sports culture among young people.

Jointly hosted by the Guiyang Wushu Association and Guiyang Institute of Humanities and Technology, under the guidance of the secretariat of the Guiyang bureau of sports, the program that ran from Dec 16 to 25 attracted 71 students.

Through systematic instruction and practical training, participants learned the fundamentals and cultural significance of the two-handed sword, a traditional martial arts discipline.

The program concluded with group demonstrations and final assessments. All participants met the program requirements and received completion certificates jointly issued by the association and the university, while outstanding trainees were recognized for their performances.

The organizers said the program combined martial arts instruction with cultural education, enabling students to improve their physical fitness while gaining a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese martial arts and strengthening cultural confidence.

According to the Guiyang Wushu Association, the program also provided valuable experience for promoting traditional martial arts on university campuses, and established a replicable model of cooperation between sports organizations and educational institutions.
