In Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, lies a hidden emerald wonderland – Guanshanhu district. Developed to ease congestion in the old city and open up space for growth, it has evolved into a vibrant eco-district.
As one of China's first National Ecological Civilization Demonstration Zones, Guanshanhu is a true "green lung". Guanshanhu Park alone spans about 5,500 mu (367 hectares), while the district is also home to Guanshan Lake, Baihua Lake, and Yueshan Lake. Air quality here is excellent more than 99 percent of the year.
By the end of 2024, forests covered 45.96 percent of Guanshanhu, green space accounted for 38.96 percent of its urban area, and parks spanned 844.92 hectares – providing residents with an average of 17.42 square meters of parkland each.
