The 2025 "Cool Guiyang, Hot Summer Games" summer sports program was launched on July 22 in Guiyang City and Gui'an New Area. The initiative aims to establish the two regions as national demonstration zones for sports consumption and a leading destination for summer competitions and mountain outdoor activities.

A total of 174 events will be held from June to October, covering running, soccer, basketball, rock climbing, tennis, go (or Weiqi, a game played with black and white pieces on a board of 361 crosses), low-altitude sports, and esports. The season began with the Guiyang Marathon, which attracted 35,000 runners and generated significant online engagement and economic benefits. A series of running-related events, such as community games, kite festivals, and trail races, will continue throughout the year.

Soccer and basketball competitions are gaining momentum, with Guiyang's team competing in China League Two with hopes of promotion, while the upcoming "Xinghuo Cup" will feature U13 youth teams from Spain, Japan, and other countries. Basketball fans will enjoy multiple home games of the Super 3 League, alongside national volleyball and youth tournaments.

Guiyang is also drawing global attention in rock climbing, hosting three major events: the National Youth Open, the Asian Youth Championship, and the IFSC World Cup, which serves as an Olympic qualifier. Complementary outdoor events, such as the "Mountain Heroes" games and paragliding competitions, highlight Guiyang's natural advantages.

Tennis and other racket sports play an equally important role. The Guiyang International Tennis Open will attract over 800 athletes from 35 countries, while badminton and table tennis tournaments offer inclusive participation opportunities.

The newly launched "Yangming Cup" Go Invitational will feature top players from China, Japan, and South Korea, with additional chess and board game events engaging all age groups.

In the digital sports realm, the F1 Esports China Open and the national drone football league will blend sports, technology, and tourism.
