The 2024 "Xijiu Cup" Guizhou Inaugural Sports Festival for the Elderly was held in Guiyang from Oct 30 to Nov 1. It attracted over 90 tennis enthusiasts and more than 50 chess fans from various cities across the province.
The Guiyang Association for Elderly Sports co-hosted the event, aiming to meet the diverse fitness needs of older adults, enrich their cultural and recreational lives, and create new platforms for seniors to showcase their skills.
The tennis competition was divided into two age groups, each featuring men's, women's, and mixed doubles categories. The tennis courts were alive with a tense, yet spirited atmosphere as players moved with agility. The crisp sound of rackets striking tennis balls echoed throughout the courts, with the matches fully demonstrating the seniors' robust physical health and competitive spirit.
"I have been playing tennis since around 1988," shared tennis enthusiast Han Junzheng. "The benefits of playing tennis are clear: it keeps me fit, connects me with friends, and brings me joy."
The chess events included team and individual matches that reflected the participants' positive outlooks and passions for life.
Chess enthusiast Ming Jianguo remarked, "Participating in these community activities is beneficial for our health as seniors."
