The founding conference for the Intellectual Sports Committee – established by the Guiyang Seniors' Sports Association – was held on Oct 28 at the Guiyang Chess Academy in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
So-called intellectual sports – such as Go, Chinese chess, bridge, and poker – are said to offer a unique form of exercise that enhances seniors' thinking, memory and focus.
These activities encourage seniors to participate in group events, foster social interaction, and facilitate mutual learning.

The founding conference included a report on the committee's preparation process, the announcement of the recommended committee members and a formal plaque-awarding ceremony.
Appointment certificates were presented to the committee's director, deputy directors, secretary-general, deputy secretary-generals and all committee members.
Moving forwards, the Intellectual Sports Committee will implement strategic plans to promote intellectual sports among seniors.
It aims to leverage its collective expertise to increase community and rural participation in these activities – enriching the lives of older adults in Guiyang.
