Guiyang establishes seniors gateball sport committee

The inaugural meeting of the Guiyang's Seniors' Gateball Committee was held on Oct 15 in Guanshanhu district of Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – bringing together nearly 20 experts specializing in the sport, which is regarded as being ideal for senior residents.

Gateball is a Japan-born mallet sport similar to the game of croquet. It is a fast-paced, non-contact, highly strategic team game, which can be played by anyone regardless of age.

The meeting aimed to plan the development and future prospects of the newly established committee and the sport.

The meeting included a report on the preparation process for the committee and the announcement of its recommended members.

After the review and approval process, a formal ceremony was held to present the committee's official plaque, along with certificates for the director, deputy directors, secretary-general, deputy secretary-general and committee members.

The establishment of the committee is expected to provide a healthy and harmonious platform for seniors – promoting the popularity of gateball among the elderly and enriching their cultural and recreational life.

Gateball is known for its low-intensity and high-enjoyment nature, making it an ideal sport for older folks. It is said to help improve their physical fitness and overall quality of life.
