Guiyang city fires up fun with volleyball competition

To promote the healthy growth of its students, the Junior High School leg of the 2024 Guizhou Province University and Middle School Volleyball Competition was held at Guizhou Normal College – in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – from May 27 to 31.

The event featured teams from schools across the province, with a total of 28 teams and over 300 students participating, including 10 teams from Guiyang city.

The competition opened with a junior high school group contest – which proved very encouraging for junior high school students learning volleyball and inspired more students to participate in the sport.

In the competition, the Guiyang Branch of Beijing No 8 High School volleyball team won second place in the boys' junior high school group.

The Guiyang volleyball team was formed in 2022, selecting nearly 50 athletes and 10 coaches from the more than 700 participants in the volleyball competition of Guiyang's 14th Games.

The new team was established by the Guiyang bureau of sports to prepare for the volleyball event of the 12th Guizhou Provincial Games in 2026.

The aim is to improve the selection mechanism for reserve players, actively prepare for the provincial games and strive for top results.
