Guiyang promotes square dance

To increase the health of the elderly population, Guiyang has established the Square Dance Special Committee of the Guiyang Elderly Sports Association. On April 17, the establishment ceremony for the special committee was held in Yunyan district, Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province. More than 80 square dance experts from Guiyang participated in the event.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Guiyang Elderly Sports Association. The special committee will not only promote the further development of square dance projects in Guiyang but also demonstrate the association's commitment to better serving the public's sports and fitness needs.

In 2023, Guiyang organized over 50 square dance exchange activities for the elderly, with nearly 11,000 participants. Furthermore, over 50 square dance training sessions were conducted, benefiting more than 10,000 people.

The successful holding of these activities and training sessions indicates that square dance has become one of the most popular fitness activities for the elderly in Guiyang, with a strong and widespread grassroots foundation. The establishment of the special committee will play an important role in the future development and promotion of square dancing by the Guiyang Elderly Sports Association.

At the ceremony, Jiang Xingheng, vice chairman of the Guizhou Provincial Elderly Sports Association, presented letters of appointment to the director and deputy directors of the special committee. Luo Huaijun, vice chairman of the Guiyang Elderly Sports Association, presented letters of appointment to the secretary-general, deputy secretary-general, committee members, and technical backbone of the special committee.
