The cultural activities surrounding the ancient Chinese game of Go are said to be flourishing in Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – especially in the wake of the Jiaxiu Cup Go Invitational Tournament, which was held at the Guiyang Go Academy on Jan 18.

During the opening ceremony of the event, four contributors who helped Guiyang's Go cause were recognized. Recently, Guiyang issued a policy called "Interim Measures for Rewarding Outstanding Contributions to the Go Cause" to mobilize various sectors of society to actively promote the game's development.

The culture surrounding the game – invented in China over 2,000 years ago – is one of Guiyang's prominent brands and its influence at home and abroad is widely recognized.

As a renowned Go city, in 2023, Guiyang hosted nearly 20 Go events of various kinds – vigorously promoting exchanges and cooperation in culture, sports and education within and outside the city. This has helped to enhance the influence of Guiyang's Go culture.

In November 2023, the Go Invitational Tournament of the 2023 China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week was held in Guiyang, with a total of 16 teams from eight ASEAN countries and eight Chinese cities participating.
