Guiyang ski resort welcomes enthusiasts in Southwest China

The Guiyang Yunding Ski Resort – located in Gaopo village, in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – was really brimming with excitement as skiing enthusiasts gathered there to enjoy the thrill of winter sports on Jan 8.

Yi Mingming, a teacher from the School of Sports at Guizhou University and a keen skiing fan, has visited the resort four or five times this year.

"Today, I brought a new friend specifically to experience the joy of skiing together," he said. He praised the high-quality artificial snow and excellent environment at the resort, which is particularly suitable for beginners.

As the city's only skiing complex, the Guiyang Yunding Ski Resort boasts great resources and advanced facilities. It features two primary skiing runs, two intermediate skiing runs, eight snow ring trails and a children's snow play area covering some 3,000 square meters.

"Recently, skiing in Harbin city, in Northeast China's Heilongjiang province, has become very popular," said "Letian Ryan", a travel blogger on Douyin with over 1 million followers.

"For friends in South China who may not have the time to travel in Harbin, I think the Guiyang Yunding Ski Resort is also a great place to experience skiing," he added.

In 2023, the Guiyang Yunding Ski Resort welcomed 45,000 visitors, generating tourism revenue topping 10 million yuan ($1.4 million). Besides skiing, the resort also offers attractions like the Yunding Flower Sea – a glorious field of vibrant flowers which visitors can enjoy viewing in summer.

Newcomers are rewarded by the experience. Xie Ying, a tourist from Guangzhou who came to the resort due to its reputation, commented after her first skiing experience: "For beginners, I think the coaches here are very professional and patient," she said.
