Guiyang athletes win national canoe championship

The 2023 National Canoe Slalom (Autumn) Championship kicked off in Miyi county, Southwest China's Sichuan province, on Dec 21.

A total of 140 athletes from across China competed in the event, which consisted of six major events, including canoeing and kayaking.

Athletes Wang Liang and Song Chengcheng from Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, achieved outstanding results in this competition. Wang Liang secured third place in the Men's A Group Canoe Team event, while Song Chengcheng claimed the championship title in the Women's B Group Single Canoe event.

The venue for this competition, the Miyi National Canoe Slalom Training Base, was designed and constructed according to world-class standards. The competition course was 310 meters long and includes a 7-meter drop. It was designated as a training venue for the 2008 Beijing Olympics Games and has also been recognized as a national canoe slalom training base by the General Administration of Sports. The base has hosted numerous high-level canoe slalom competitions.
