The 2023 Guiyang International Tennis Open got underway in Guiyang on Sept 10 and will last until Sept 24. With a total purse of $50,000, it has attracted 248 professional players from 40 countries and regions.

In recent years, Guiyang has seen its influence in both the international and domestic tennis circles grow, especially from 2016 to 2019 when it hosted the ITF International Women's Tennis Tour for four consecutive years.

This year's international tennis events in the city have been upgraded in terms of the number of players and the impact of the events.

"This is my second time competing here in Guiyang, and I have a very good impression of the city," said Wang Jiaqi, a player from Shenzhen Hongjindi Tennis Club, adding that Guiyang has done a great job in terms of building a lively atmosphere, professional team of referees and convenient logistics operations.

"This international tennis competition not only makes us feel the high level of tennis up close, but also plays a great role in promoting the level of tennis competition in Guiyang. At the same time, it helps to promote Guiyang's reputation globally," said Tao Shuming, chairman of the Guiyang Tennis Association.
