Guiyang canoeist to represent nation at Asian Games

On July 3, the Aquatic Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sports of China announced the list of canoe still water and slalom athletes who will participate in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou from Sept 23 to Oct 8. Guizhou aquatic athletes – Shuai Changwen and Huang Juan – were among them.

After the selection process is finalized, China will send 18 athletes to compete in canoe still water and slalom events at the 19th Asian Games. According to the announcement, Shuai Changwen will feature in the 200-meter women's double canoe race in still water, and Huang Juan will compete in the women's single canoe slalom race.

Shuai Changwen was born in Guiyang in 2000. She pocketed the gold in the women's 200-meter single canoe at the 14th National Games in 2021, and silver in the women's 200-meter tandem at the 2022 Canoeing (Stillwater) World Championships.

She also secured victory in the women's 200m solo at the 2022 International Canoeing Federation Junior and U23 Canoeing World Championships in the still water events; and bagged one gold and one bronze medal during the second stop of the 2023 Canoe Still Water World Cup (Poznan Station).
