The 14th Qianling Mountain Speed Climbing Competition hosted by Guiyang bureau of sports kicked off on May 7, with 100 climbers participating.

The 6.1-kilometer course concluded at Daluo Ridge, the main peak of Qianling Mountain, which is 1,396 meters above sea level.

Peng Dengjun claimed first place in the men's group in a time of 58 minutes and 14 seconds. Luo Dan finished first in the women's division, clocking 58 minutes and 13 seconds to break the record of 1 hour and 14 seconds set in 2021.

The event also features a "men's 55 minute speed award" and "women's 60 minute speed award", and participants who complete the race within this time period will be rewarded with customized small gold statues. "It was my first time coming here. My goal was to win a gold statue, but unexpectedly I broke the record," Luo said.

The event is one of a series of measures designed to boost Guiyang's status as a health and fitness hub.
