National fitness center to open in Guiyang

The Guizhou National Fitness Center Project (Phase I) recently began construction in the Guizhou Shuanglong Airport Economic Zone, located in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

The project has a total investment of 689 million yuan ($102 million) and a total construction area of about 3.65 million square meters. Its indoor site will include a basketball hall, a multi-purpose hall and a tennis hall. The supporting outdoor activity sites include a standard sports field with a 400-meter circular running track, an extreme sports field, a bicycle lane, and climbing facilities among other things.

It is reported that the second phase of the project will see to the construction of facilities such as a small gymnasium, swimming pool, dry snow slope and supporting commercial complexes. This phase will require an investment of more than 800 million yuan.

After completion, the center will become a provincial public welfare complex and modern sports service facility, which integrates sports, tourism, leisure, and health care. 

It is believed that the center will play an important role in enriching people's lives, driving regional economic development and improving urban quality of life.
