Guiyang city launches ambitious fitness goals

The municipal government of Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – is understood to be implementing a systematic plan for the development of fitness in the city during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

The city is said to have identified nine major tasks, including promoting fitness facilities and services, scientific fitness guidance services, fitness events and the overall development of the sports industry.

It will also promote fitness intelligence, the integration of sports and health, the integration of sports and tourism, the vitality of sports social organizations and the social atmosphere of fitness.

Guiyang has also set goals to strive for by 2025. At that time, Guiyang will develop itself into a National Model City for National Sports and Fitness, and strive to become a National Sports Pilot Consumption City.

Elsewhere, the city will push to reach the target of having 45 percent of its population regularly participating in physical exercise.

In addition, by that year it will aim to have area given over to sports reaching 2.6 square meters per capita. The number of soccer fields per 10,000 people is projected to reach 0.8, while the number of social sports instructors is predicted to reach three per 1,000 people and 92.5 percent of residents will be qualified at or above National Physical Standards.

Moreover, the structure of the sports industry will be more optimized and the total scale of the sector will reach more than 18 billion yuan ($2.83 billion).
