Intellectual sports competitions featuring memory games, programming and e-sports were held in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, during the 2021 China International Big Data Industry Expo, which took place on May 26-28.

It is the first time that intellectual sports competitions have been held during the expo since its launch in 2015. They were held to explore the development path of intellectual sports in Guiyang and cultivate talents in the intellectual sports and big data fields.

Nearly 5,000 contestants from primary and middle schools in Guian New Area and Guiyang, higher vocational schools, and other sectors participated in the preliminaries, among whom more than 200 made it into the finals on May 28.

The selection process allowed more teachers and students to learn about and participate in intellectual sports. It also helped enhance students' learning ability and interest in intellectual sports.

The competitions tried to integrate sports and big data, and explored sports development in the big data era, according to officials from the Guiyang Bureau of Sports.
