Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has outlined its development plans for the sports sector during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), according to local media reports.

The plans primarily cover six aspects.

The first task is to promote the in-depth integration of national fitness and national health by building a high-level public service system for national fitness. The expectation is that in the next five years, the proportion of people who regularly participate in physical exercise will reach 45 percent, the urban and rural coverage of sports equipment and facilities will reach 100 percent, and the per capita sports field area will reach 2.3 square meters or more.

The second is to significantly improve the comprehensive strength of competitive sports. The city will optimize the layout and structure of competitive sports, improve the talent training system, and strive to achieve remarkable results at major international and national competitions.

By 2025, the city expects to establish 60 traditional sports schools at all levels and 10 outstanding sports reserve talent bases.

Thirdly, the city will promote the integrated development of sports and tourism, education, culture, healthcare and big data. By 2025, the sports industry's total output value will reach 16 billion yuan ($2.46 billion), with an added value of more than 6 billion yuan. The city will also boast more than 3,000 registered sports companies.

Guiyang will build itself into a global mountain sports tourism destination, create several sports tourism demonstration projects and sports tourism industries, and develop into an international sports tourism city.

It will also cultivate mountain sports culture, develop diversified sports culture projects, and build various sports and cultural exchange platforms.

The city will also promote the coordinated development of Guiyang and Guian New Area. The two places will encourage the integration of sports and big data, and Guian New Area is expected to become a big data service center for national sports tourism.

By 2025, the output value of the digital sports industry in the two places will reach 3 billion yuan.
