Guiyang sees outstanding sports achievements during 13th Five-Year Plan

Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has achieved outstanding results in its sports sector during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), according to local media reports.

According to Guizhou's 2019 sports industry census report, the total output (total scale) of the sports industry in Guiyang city reached 11.03 billion yuan ($1.69 billion), accounting for 39.36 percent of the province's total. The sector's added value was 4.53 billion yuan, accounting for 40.08 percent of the province's total.

During the past five years, the national fitness program has flourished in Guiyang. The city offers complete sports and fitness facilities to people, including one county-level stadium, two national fitness centers, 53 social football fields, 10 community multi-function stadiums, 110 kilometers of fitness trails and 15 ecological sports parks.

As of the end of 2020, the per capita sports area in Guiyang had reached 1.99 square meters.

The city has achieved remarkable results in major sports competitions during the five years. Its athletes earned 11 golds, five silvers and two bronzes in international competitions, a huge success compared with three golds during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-15).

During the five years, Guiyang also explored and promoted the integrated development of sports and cultural tourism, health, education, the internet and poverty alleviation.

In 2019, the total output value of sports and related industries in Guiyang exceeded 9 billion yuan, and the added value reached 4.1 billion yuan.

The city also hosted several branded events to enrich residents' cultural lives and promote the city's profile, such as the Guiyang International Marathon and China Tennis Tour.
