Guiyang Shengfu Road Primary School in Guiyang, the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, held a martial arts competition on Dec 25, 2020.

Hosted by the primary school, the competition attracted the participation of nine classes with more than 450 students. Following the contest's two rounds, two first prizes, three second prizes and three third prizes were selected.

Song Chengqiang, head of the education bureau of Yunyan district, said at the competition that the school had innovated its physical education program by including martial arts, promoting Chinese traditional culture and helping students keep healthy.

The martial arts PE program began in 2019 while school buildings in Yuantong community were being rebuilt, and there were no sports venues. Due to its success, the program has continued, according to the school's principal.
