Guiyang hosts basketball tournament for villagers

The finals of a basketball tournament for villagers of Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province, took place in the city's fitness center from Dec 18 to 21, with 10 teams from local districts and counties competing.

Organized by the city's publicity department and sports bureau, the event has been a tradition for local villagers since it started in 2007. The number of its participants has grown from hundreds at the beginning to thousands in recent years. The success of the tournament has encouraged local villagers to participate in the national fitness campaign, while also promoting local tourism and economic development.

The games took place in three phases: village-level competitions, township-level competitions, and the final competitions, which were attended by selected basketball players from 10 districts and counties.

The basketball tournament is one of the city's top five sports events and aims to develop sports activities in rural areas, promote the national fitness campaign, as well as encourage local villagers to have a healthy lifestyle.
